On a typical rainy Friday evening in springtime Chicago, Remy and Alex first met outside Sparrow, one of the city’s many speakeasies. Both had long weeks, work travel in Boston, a full schedule of classes at Booth, making cocktails and conversation the much-needed remedy to cap off a hectic week. With Rosados in hand and Cuban music in the background, it quickly became clear this was more than your standard first-date.
Spring turned to summer and this new couple quickly bonded over a love for trying new restaurants and exploring city rooftops, almost always justified by earning “food credits” beforehand through long walks along the lakeshore. Trips to museums, trekking through state parks, going to concerts, visiting the Minnesota State Fair, and attending a Gator football game were all highlights that preceded the start of autumn. Coincidences along the way never seemed to stop and surely never will.
As the cooler months came on, so did cozy evenings of cooking at home and the start of a dynamic pickleball duo. After winning the Beginner league in their rookie season, Remy and Alex advanced to the Intermediate ranks. Though not as successful in their sophomore campaign, largely due to questionable calls and opponent sandbagging of course, fun was still had through a shared love of physical activity, competition, and taking on challenges.
To continue in this vein, when both their leases coincidentally ended in May, Remy and Alex decided to take on the challenge of moving in together. Looking for a place all over Chicago, they ended up finding a condo where they least expected, just one block from Alex’s previous apartment. Views of Lake Michigan, ample space for two home-offices and convenient access to Millennium Park were hard to pass on. As if this wasn’t enough, the addition of Bang, a six-month old French Bulldog puppy, helped make their house a home, providing endless entertainment along the way.
Later that fall, plans were made for a much-needed warm weather vacation to help break up the winter months and take advantage of an incredibly generous flight credit courtesy of United Airlines. Maui was set as the destination for a weeklong getaway to temporarily escape the concrete jungle of downtown Chicago. After watching the sun rise atop Mount Haleakalā, whale watching in the 'Au'au Channel, and driving the road (almost) to Hana, only one thing was left to truly make this an unforgettable vacation. Shortly after Mai Tais at the Four Seasons, on their last night on the island, Alex proposed to Remy at Po’Olenalena Beach.
The couple is so incredibly excited to celebrate the start of their new chapter with you, one with new challenges, coincidences, and many more meaningful memories to come!
